Cataclysm Inscription
Highlights:
- Leveling 425-525 uses new Cataclysm pigments and inks. Like WotLK, the final 25 skill points are tough to power-level. Update: Power-leveling is a little easier – Runescroll of Fortitude II now gives skill-ups, and Twilight Highlands vendor items are no longer sold limited supply.
- New Cataclysm Products include Relics, Mysterious Fortune Cards, and Adventurer’s Journals. New sets of Darkmoon Cards can be made at 525 skill. No Glyphs require Cataclysm.
- New tier of Scribe-only shoulder enchants at 500 skill.
El’s Inscription has been updated with changes. For full details, read about the Cataclysm.
4.0.1 Fishing
With patch 4.0.1:
- Fishing (cast) spell icon and skill moves to the new Professions tab of the Spellbook.
- Easier fishing training: Only level 5 is required, and all trainers teach all the ranks available to you.
- Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat (and Northrend daily poles) have no level requirement [possibly a bug].
Most Cataclysm changes are not in patch 4.0.1. Please let us know on the forums if you discover anything new while fishing.
3.1 Fishing Roundup Part 2
Patch 3.1 PTR is like Winter Veil come early! You can read all known 3.1 changes here. Or listen to Saturday’s (28th) Rawrcast Show. Latest discoveries:
- Arcanite Fishing Pole gives +40 skill bonus.
- Achievements added for fishing up the Sea Turtle (mount) and completing the new fishing daily quests [from data files].
- No changes to One That Didn’t Get Away (Baby Coralshell Turtle, Old Crafty and Mr. Pinchy now do not count towards the achievement).
- Junk items replace “your fish got away” messages: For example, Driftwood, Old Boot, and Sickly Fish. Skill-ups can be gained from catching junk. Learn more.
- Expert and Artisan Fishing now taught by trainers. Only level 10 required. More detail.
- Loot confirmation for Bind on Pickup catches has been removed (confirmed for Giant Sewer Rat).
- New fishing cursors (illustrated top right). Use unknown.
Additions from the patch notes:
- “A new (and very rare) special mount can now be caught from Northrend fishing pools.” [Presumably the
Coralshell TurtleSea Turtle.] - “The time needed to catch fish has been reduced.” [Maybe.]
Further updates to come. Thanks for all the forum contributions.
El’s Anglin’ Updated for WotLK
Busy packing warm clothing for a trip to Northrend on 13th November? El’s Extreme Anglin’ has been completely updated with Wrath of the Lich King information. The biggest changes are:
- Training – Including a new 350-450 cooking and fishing leveling guide. A guide to Dalaran Daily Cooking Quests has been added.
- Valuable Fish – Many new valuable catches, from buff food to minipets.
Please post about anything you find confusing or inaccurate on the forums.
Patch 3.0.2
Expected major fishing changes in the new Patch 3.0.2:
- Many fishing achievements can now be completed.
- Azeroth’s pool names have changed.
Level fishing more than twice as fast– most leveling appears to be unchanged (more detailed confirmation still wanted).
The Fish Finder contains many smaller changes. Please post anything new you find on the forums (or email).
Inscription Power-Leveling Guide
The first version of the Inscription leveling guide is now available, for 1 to 350. The guide adjusts for known quirks and bugs in the current beta. It should give an accurate estimate of the herb volumes needed. However, major changes may occur in the next week: Inscription is still not finished! Read the guide.
WotLK: Fishing Skill-Up Catches Slashed
The number of catches required to skill-up fishing in Wrath of the Lich King has more than halved: Fishing skill 1 to 375 now needs about 655 catches, compared to 1,700 catches before. 375 to 450 only takes about 315 catches. 1 to 450 in under 5 hours! We assume this change is intended ((it has been in beta for at least a week)). We also assume that 1-375 will become much faster with patch 3.0, which is expected to be released in a few weeks. Leveling fishing should get a lot easier! Browse the new skill-up table.
Inscription: Beta 8905 Update
- Master and Grand Master Inscription ranks are now trainable. Trainers and vendors can also be found in cities in Old Azeroth. See training.
- Skill required to learn recipes between 1 and 100 has been smoothed out, and is now easier to level.
- A Mystic Tome recipe has been added (an Off-Hand, Bind on Pickup item), plus 2 extra low-level scrolls.
- Milling has been changed: Some groups of herbs now produce different pigments in slightly different volumes. Rare bonus items can also sometimes be gained from milling. See milling.
- Bloodthistle and Flame Cap are no longer millable.
- Herbs in the 225 skill (which includes Dreamfoil) and 275 skill (Outland-only herbs) groups currently do not mill into pigments. Tentatively: Burnt Pigment cannot be gained by milling. This probably means you cannot level up to 400 skill (unless you already had the materials).
- No new glyphs have been seen in Northrend (some new glyphs were added to the data files).
El’s Inscription should now be updated with changes.
WotLK Round-Up: Northrend Pools and Grand Master Fishing
The latest WotLK test version adds many new pools to Northrend. It is now also possible to learn and (since this morning) train fishing above skill 375 – more details. Thanks to those anglers that have been posting information on the forums. Curious about fishing in Wrath of the Lich King? Read the full preview.
