Cataclysm: Mount Hyjal, Uldum, and…

Updated: Thanks to Hoddie and Kaliope, we now have some detail about catches in Mount Hyjal, Uldum and Twilight Highlands. Any more discoveries or catch data greatly appreciated – further discussion.

Cataclysm: Cooking

Thanks to Kaliope and Ladik, we now have information about likely new cooked fish dishes and buffs, (even cooking skill). Only the recipes are confirmed – I have guessed which ingredients will be caught. Beta also added a +100 Feathered Lure (which is cooked) and an intriguing Not Yet Implemented Fishing Spear – “Use: Hurls your spear at a fish.” Complete cataclysm information.

Cataclysm: Alchemist’s Tarot

The latest Cataclysm beta adds new Inscription spells to create Alchemy Tarot, used to raise Alchemy skill. Scribes make Journeyman Alchemist’s Tarot using Greater Healing Potion, Elixir of Defense, Jadefire Ink, and Common Parchment. But unusually, “Each time this item is created, either the potion or the elixir is consumed, but never both.” The result is likely to be similar to an Alchemy Tarot – “Permanently increases your skill in Alchemy by 1, up to a maximum of 150.” These are incomplete and unfinished, but it looks like Scribes might gain a way to help others level professions.

Cataclysm: Beta

Public (invite-only) Cataclysm testing has now started. There are almost no fishing changes yet: Known Cataclysm fishing information is here. Details will also appear in the Cataclysm Fish Finder, which is currently just a copy of the live Fish Finder. Please let us know of any new information, via the Forums or email. You can now discuss anything about Cataclysm on the forums freely, because the NDA has been lifted. (Apologies to anglers that had a “leak” post deleted.)

Cataclysm: Glyphs and Archaeology

New Cataclysm information via Wowhead, World of Raids and GamePlanet:

Cataclysm: Inscription Preview

Wryxian previews Cataclysm Inscription:

Cataclysm: Fishing Preview

Wryxian previews Cataclysm fishing:

“Lots of new fish and other fun items to catch! Fish are still used to make premium food. New fishing dailies.”

Nothing about any changes to the method of catching fish, but “many of the professions are still deep in development”. Oh, and no aquarium ;-) .

Archaeology: The Evolution of Inscription

The first details of Cataclysm’s new secondary profession, Archaeology, were revealed at BlizzCon. Many Archaeology techniques sound a lot like Inscription: Archaeology allows ancient glyphs to be filled. And you may recall that “deciphering” was an Inscription skill that briefly appeared during beta testing. Why is Archaeology a new secondary profession, and not a continuation of Inscription? BlizzCon 2009 Fishing

Good to know “Old Crafty” is still plotting his escape from Orgrimmar:

“Big changes to fishing that I cannot talk about yet… We’re going to make it more fun!”

Perhaps based on Animal Crossing – you’d be able to see different types of fish, and cast so that the bobber lands near the fish you want (thanks Mike).

With the Cataclysm, maximum personal fishing skill will rise to 525, with a new “Illustrious” rank. And water appears to move more.

Cataclysm: Archaeology

WoW’s 3rd expansion will add Archaeology as a new secondary profession. Few details yet, but it will allow you to, “unearth valuable artifacts and earn unique rewards.”

You will be able to explore ruins around Azeroth and recover “notes” or artefacts that have been exposed by the cataclysm. Gather several similar notes in your journal (pictured below), and then decipher these in a “minigame” or quest (undecided). This will gives different rewards – vanity pets, instant travel to dungeon, titles, recipes for other professions.

Artifacts can be given to a cult, to gain a glyph that fits your Ancient Glyph slot. These glyphs are not part of Inscription. They are part of the Path of the Titans, a new customisation/progression system. Gaining all these ancient glyphs is “gated, not grindy”.
