Fishing Bobber Distribution

Fishing Bobber Distribution Now for some real bobber news! Vetchinkin recorded the place his bobber landed about 50 times (view full image). "I see that the bobber lands with equal probability within a trapazoid shaped region. The range is 10-20 yards, but that's a little misleading, because it is 10-20 yards perpendicular to a line passing through the angler, not 10-20 yards radius from the angler."

Was this testing done from different heights?

I'd be interested to know if the 10-20 yards is regardless of how far above the water you are, or if that may influence the placement to some degree.

Height does make a difference. Try testing this out by fishing from the stone blocks and arches overlooking water in Crystalsong Forest.

    • From the highest arches and tallest blocks, you cannot cast into water at all.
    • From the mid-height blocks, you can cast, but only some of the time. When you do cast, the bobbers only land relatively close to the base of the block.
    • From shortest block, you can always cast, and bobbers can land further away from the base of the block.

So I suspect the range is 10-20 yards, based on a straight line between you and the water. If you are standing more than 10 yards above the water, some of your casts fail to find water. And more than 20 yards above, none of your casts find water. (But the maths may be skewed, to prevent the bobber appearing directly underneath you.) There's no doubt a better location for testing this (stairs overlooking water), where the precise pattern can be researched. Intriguing.

I have seen a screenshot of someone standing on the flight tower and fishing in the pond in Thunder Bluff. I would guess that the bobber is placed somewhere along an angle from somewhere on the player's model, or a fixed spot above the base of the player (say, 6 feet above the character's feet for example). The angle would vary to account for the different distances.

Woah! Wuvlycuddles Orc Deathknight on Chamber of Aspects EU just won the competition in 11minutes >.< Congrats to him!

I've found that if you fish while in "1st person view" your blobber always land in a perfect line in front of you [varying lenght].

check it! it's very useful for aiming at schools etc.
