Cataclysm: Alchemist’s Tarot
The latest Cataclysm beta adds new Inscription spells to create Alchemy Tarot, used to raise Alchemy skill. Scribes make Journeyman Alchemist’s Tarot using Greater Healing Potion, Elixir of Defense, Jadefire Ink, and Common Parchment. But unusually, “Each time this item is created, either the potion or the elixir is consumed, but never both.” The result is likely to be similar to an Alchemy Tarot – “Permanently increases your skill in Alchemy by 1, up to a maximum of 150.” These are incomplete and unfinished, but it looks like Scribes might gain a way to help others level professions.
Cataclysm: Glyphs and Archaeology
New Cataclysm information via Wowhead, World of Raids and GamePlanet:
- Path of the Titans removed. It was too similar to the glyph system – as I predicted last year!
- Instead, a new tier of Medium Glyphs: “Major glyphs are still critical, but minor and medium glyphs have more flexibility.” “Medium glyphs will be to provide ‘fun’ alterations to abilities.” 3 glyphs of each type at level 85.
- Glyphs may be permanently learned, and then swapped from a list, not consumed on use. Scribes may produce a “kind of eraser” to allow glyphs to be swapped. Not yet confirmed.
- Inscription more focused on non-glyphs (cards, trinkets, offhand).
- Archaeology becomes more lore and storyline focused. Not a “must have” profession.
- 2 types of Archaeological discovery: Common Artifacts (lore-based collection game) and Rare Items (usable items – mostly “cosmetic”).
Cataclysm: Inscription Preview
Wryxian previews Cataclysm Inscription:
- “With the large number of class changes coming with Cataclysm, many existing glyphs will see new functionality.
- Minor glyphs are woefully uneven from one class to the next right now, so they’re a focus for us to clean them up and try to ensure that everyone has minor glyphs they’re excited about.
- New Darkmoon Cards will be added, with hopes they’ll all be as awesome as the Greatness card.
- We’ll be adding more major glyphs as well, but in the hopes of making them as balanced as possible, we’ll likely wait until after the expansion ships to add any for the new abilities in Cataclysm.
- New and more desirable off-hand and relic recipes will be added.”
3.3.3 Inscription – Fewer Inks
Patch 3.3.3, reduces the number of inks required to make glyphs to one ink. Read on for a list of the Inscription items that still use more than 1 ink. Read more »
3.3 Techniques
On the patch 3.3 Public Test Realm, Dalaran’s Inscription Supplier sells a limited supply of recipes to create “techniques”:
- Technique: Glyph of Eternal Water – Inscription 250, for level 50 Mage – Your Summon Water Elemental now lasts indefinitely, but your Water Elemental can no longer cast Freeze.
- Technique: Glyph of Rapid Rejuvenation – Inscription 375, for level 15 Druid – Your haste now reduces the time between the periodic healing ticks of your Rejuvenation spell.
- Technique: Glyph of Quick Decay – Inscription 375, for level 15 Warlock – Your haste now reduces the time between periodic damage ticks of your Corruption spell.
All 3 should require Snowfall Ink and Resilient Parchment to make. Update: The recipes can now be learnt.
3.2.2: Runescroll of Fortitude
A new group scroll has appeared on the patch 3.2.2 PTR: Runescroll of Stamina is trained at 440 Inscription skill. The recipe is green (low chance of a skill-up) until at least 450. Each use of the recipe requires 1 Snowfall Ink and 5 Resilient Parchment, and makes 5 “Runescroll of Fortitude”. These scrolls require level 80 to use, but can be traded. Using the scroll increases Stamina by 165 for all party and raid members for 1 hour. This Stamina bonus acts like a normal scroll buff.
Archaeology: The Evolution of Inscription
The first details of Cataclysm’s new secondary profession, Archaeology, were revealed at BlizzCon. Many Archaeology techniques sound a lot like Inscription: Archaeology allows ancient glyphs to be filled. And you may recall that “deciphering” was an Inscription skill that briefly appeared during beta testing. Why is Archaeology a new secondary profession, and not a continuation of Inscription?
