Deepsea Sagefish Schools
New Deepsea Sagefish Schools have replaced Algaefin Rockfish Schools around the coast of Twilight Highlands. Pools contain 90% Deepsea Sagefish, compared to 30% from open water. Spellcasters and healers can finally catch their favourite buff food from pools! Thanks Cy.
Catches Halved to Level Fishing
In patch 4.3, the typical number of catches required to level fishing from 1 to 525 has roughly halved, from just over 3,000, to a total of about 1,400. The number of catches at each skill point is now also much more variable above 300 skill, especially above 450. From 450 to 525 fishing skill, one point of skill can take between 1 and 13 catches to gain. The latest skill-up table can be found here. Update: Fishing and Cooking guides have now been re-written for patch 4.3, including an entirely new 300-525 pool option.
Ghostcrawler Promised Me A…
Sea Pony! This minipet is confirmed to be caught from open water around Darkmoon Island. Thanks Hegarol.
Darkmoon Faire Fishing
Now on the 4.3 Public Test Realm:
- Darkmoon Island contains fishable open water (update: rarely containing the new Sea Pony minipet) and new Shipwreck Debris (Darkmoon) pools, containing a new type of Sealed Crate (Darkmoon). Contents similar to the Tol Barad crates, except with Faire food and drink. Darkmoon Island also contains a fishing trainer and vendor.
- New fishing quest, Spoilin’ for Salty Sea Dogs, to catch 5 Great Sea Herring from either pools or open water around the island. Quest available to anglers with at least 75 fishing skill.
Mists of Pandaria Q&A
From the developer Q&A for the next expansion, Mists of Pandaria:
- Profession skill cap rises to 600.
- Cooking specializations: For example, “grilling may create Strength food.” Choose a specialisation or “learn all.”
- Inscription’s prime glyphs “might go away”, with more major glyphs instead.
4.3 Minor Fishing Changes
Patch 4.3 is being tested. So far:
- Plated Armorfish no longer required for The Limnologist.
- Darkmoon Faire achievement Faire Favors includes a new fishing quest – Spoilin’ for Salty Sea Dogs – “Catch 5 Great Sea Herring in the ocean around Darkmoon Island”. The new Faire is not yet available for testing.
- Fishing Poles and Off-hand fish cannot be transmogrified. Unique items cannot be void-stored.
4.2 Fishing Chair and Daily Achievements
Patch 4.2 is now being tested going live:
- Mushroom Chair, reported to be sold by a vendor after completing several stages of the new Firelands daily quests: Introduction, Druids of the Talon and Shadow Warden, then Filling the Moonwell – more details.
- New faction-specific achievements for the daily quests added in patch 4.1, plus a meta achievement for completing all 3 sets of achievements – Alliance guide/Horde guide.
4.1 Fishing Highlights
Important fishing changes in patch 4.1:
- New fishing daily quests: Darnassus and Ironforge (for Alliance) and Thunder Bluff and Undercity (for Horde).
- Bloated fish are no longer required for The Limnologist and Oceanographer.
- Cataclysm catches in Zul’Aman and Zul’Gurub.
- Update: Azshara’s Veil now caught from Algaefin Rockfish and Fathom Eel pools, and coastal open water of Tol Barad, Twilight Highlands and Uldum. Volatile Water catches in these waters have halved.
4.1 Azeroth Daily Fishing Quests
Patch 4.1 adds daily fishing quests to Darnassus, Ironforge, Thunder Bluff and the Undercity. The quests are described on the Alliance and Horde Azeroth daily pages. These dailies are alternatives to the Stormwind or Orgrimmar quests: You can only complete 1 Azeroth fishing daily per day. Patch 4.1 simply gives you a choice of cities, each with different quests. Rewards are the same as before.
4.1 Undercity Daily Quests
The latest test version of patch 4.1 adds fishing and cooking daily quests to the Undercity. Quests start from trainers (Armand Cromwell and Eunice Burch respectively). These give the same rewards as the Orgrimmar dailies. The new dailies are work-in-progress and not yet complete: There is only 1 confirmed fishing quest (Fish Head, which requires a Severed Abomination Head to be caught from the Undercity). No equivalent new Alliance quests have been found yet.
