Cataclysm: Mount Hyjal, Uldum, and…
Updated: Thanks to Hoddie and Kaliope, we now have some detail about catches in Mount Hyjal, Uldum and Twilight Highlands. Any more discoveries or catch data greatly appreciated – further discussion.
Cataclysm: Cooking
Thanks to Kaliope and Ladik, we now have information about likely new cooked fish dishes and buffs, (even cooking skill). Only the recipes are confirmed – I have guessed which ingredients will be caught. Beta also added a +100 Feathered Lure (which is cooked) and an intriguing Not Yet Implemented Fishing Spear – “Use: Hurls your spear at a fish.” Complete cataclysm information.
Cataclysm: Beta
Public (invite-only) Cataclysm testing has now started. There are almost no fishing changes yet: Known Cataclysm fishing information is here. Details will also appear in the Cataclysm Fish Finder, which is currently just a copy of the live Fish Finder. Please let us know of any new information, via the Forums or email. You can now discuss anything about Cataclysm on the forums freely, because the NDA has been lifted. (Apologies to anglers that had a “leak” post deleted.)
Dynamite Fishing [Updated More]
Latest: Officially, dynamite fishing no longer works. Originally: Dwarves (and others) can fish with dynamite! Almost. Use Ez-Thro Dynamite (or II) on a pool (school). The dynamite will cause the pool to explode and disappear. It will be replaced by one or more objects in the water: Dead Fish, Crate, Bottle. These objects remain for a few minutes. Most people will not be able to open these objects. Blizzard have now confirmed (to me) that dynamite is intended to be used on pools, but the looting is bugged. The plot thickens. Read more »
Cataclysm: Fishing Preview
Wryxian previews Cataclysm fishing:
“Lots of new fish and other fun items to catch! Fish are still used to make premium food. New fishing dailies.”
Nothing about any changes to the method of catching fish, but “many of the professions are still deep in development”. Oh, and no aquarium ;-) .
Cataclysm: Aquarium Preview
Expected in Cataclysm, the Aquarium will allow anglers to store, grow, and show their rarest catches: Read the full Aquarium preview.
Weather-Beaten Hat and Line Enchants
Current 3.3.3 issues likely to cause confusion:
- [Fixed] Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat’s lure can only be used on WotLK fishing poles (Kalu’ak, Jeweled, Bone).
- High Test Eternium Fishing Line +5 enchant displays as +2 on poles [to be fixed in an "upcoming patch"].
3.3.3 Fishing (Updated)
From the 3.3.3 patch notes:
“The ‘Monsterbelly Appetite’ daily fishing quest has changed so it now takes place outside the Violet Hold in Dalaran. The quest still requires a Severed Arm [catch a Bloated Slippery Eel] and has been renamed to ‘Disarmed!’”
Also:
- Using a lure now automatically lures your equipped fishing pole (you no longer apply the lure directly to your pole).
- Sea Turtle jump sound – video (thanks Durth).
- New junk items from the Northrend daily Bag of Fishing Treasures – A Fantasy Portrait (pictured below) and Blank Slate (thanks Huenninjarin).
- Level 70 requirement on fishing gear from that bag (Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat and poles), to stop “twinks” using them.
3.3 Fishing
Expected Patch 3.3 changes to fishing:
- Never catch junk from pools. Fish any pool successfully with skill 1.
- Kalu’ak Fishing Derby, Saturdays 14:00. Read strategies (or contribute).
- Enchant Gloves – Angler, +5 skill. Enchanters’ formula from Indu’le Fishermen, Mystics or Warriors at Lake Indu’le.
- Cooking slightly easier to level near 450 skill.
El’s Anglin’ has been updated. A few other minor changes have been reported (thanks).
3.3 Saturday Kalu’ak Derby
In the latest test version of patch 3.3, the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby starts at 14:00 every Saturday, instead of Wednesdays.
