Cataclysm: Alchemist’s Tarot

The latest Cataclysm beta adds new Inscription spells to create Alchemy Tarot, used to raise Alchemy skill. Scribes make Journeyman Alchemist’s Tarot using Greater Healing Potion, Elixir of Defense, Jadefire Ink, and Common Parchment. But unusually, “Each time this item is created, either the potion or the elixir is consumed, but never both.” The result is likely to be similar to an Alchemy Tarot – “Permanently increases your skill in Alchemy by 1, up to a maximum of 150.” These are incomplete and unfinished, but it looks like Scribes might gain a way to help others level professions.

3.0.8: Glassfin Minnow for Alchemists

In the latest test version of patch 3.0.8, Glassfin Minnow are used by Alchemists to make Ethereal Oil. 2 fish per oil. Ethereal Oil is reported to be used to make Elixir of Water Walking. (Thanks szalyb and others.)

Pygmy Suckerfish can now be caught from inland water in Northrend. Alchemists can use these to make Pygmy Oil. Each fish makes 1-2 oils. Drinking Pygmy Oil makes you a little smaller for 10 minutes. After drinking 6-10 oils in a row, you gain a buff described as “Pygmified!”, which turns you into – you guessed it – a Pygmy for 10 minutes!

The buff currently changes appearance, voice and emotes: You become just like a gnome. There are no obvious combat benefits yet, such as immunity to polymorph. So it is still too early to declare this the new Noggenfogger Elixir or Deviate Delight. But it is an amusing addition to fishing, and re-introduces the link between Alchemy and Fishing professions.
