Cataclysm: Arcanite Fishing Pole
The Arcanite Fishing Pole has a new design. Thanks Ainell.
Cataclysm: Pools
The first new pools are starting to appear in new Cataclysm zones:
- Albino Cavefish School (Deepholm),
- Algaefin Rockfish School (coastal Twilight Highlands),
- Blackbelly Mudfish School (inland Uldum),
- Fathom Eel Swarm (coastal Uldum),
- Highland Guppy School (inland Twilight Highlands),
- Mountain Trout School (Mount Hyjal).
I wonder what rare catches might be lurking… Further discussion.
Cataclysm: Glyph Production
With the PTR pre-patch (and also Cataclysm):
- Each glyph recipe requires 3x ink, so producing glyphs costs (in herbs) at least twice as much as in WotLK.
- Most glyphs (recipe, item, or applied) should convert directly into new Cataclysm glyphs during the next live patch (before Cataclysm).
Goblin investors may spot an opportunity for profit, by creating glyphs before the patch, and selling them after! But be careful: A few named glyphs convert into “Charred Glyphs” – junk items worth only 50s. Details are incomplete and untested, but here is a list of expected conversions.
Cataclysm: Fishing Achievements
Not all yet confirmed in beta, but data mining reveals:
- “Realm First! Illustrious Angler” – first to 525 fishing skill on your realm. Regular achievements are also available to everyone for reaching the maximum skill in each rank (not simply learning the rank, as in WotLK).
- “The Limnologist” and “The Oceanographer” for catching almost every common freshwater (inland) and saltwater (coastal) fish (full list).
- “Fish or Cut Bait” for completing the new Azeroth Daily Fishing Quests.

Cataclysm: Inscription
Inscription can now be trained on beta realms (thanks again Kaliope). I have summarised everything known about Cataclysm inscription here, including herbs/milling, personal Inscription bonuses, new prime/major/minor glyph structure, interesting new products, and skill-up details for trainable recipes. Most interesting is the new Adventurer’s Journal, which appears to grant experience on use to those below level 85 (see comment below). Scribes can also make iLevel 359 epic relics, and gain some interesting ways to gold, such as Fortune Cards and Forged Documents. New scrolls, off-hands, and Darkmoon Cards (“Destruction” tier) can also be produced.
Cataclysm: Mount Hyjal, Uldum, and…
Updated again: Thanks to Hoddie, Kaliope, Yoco and Idoru, we now have some detail about catches in Deepholm (including Alchemist’s Albino Cavefish), Mount Hyjal, Uldum and Twilight Highlands. Any more discoveries or catch data greatly appreciated – further discussion.
