More Pigments from Milling
Thanks to everyone that submitted milling data, the milling analysis has been updated. The results are still not conclusive, but it seems likely that higher-level herbs within each skill-group give more pigments. From lowest to highest level herbs, an average of about 2.4 to 3.0 for primary pigments, 0.2 to 0.6 for secondary pigments. Read more.
Cross-Faction Fishing
Trying to catch Old Crafty or Old Ironjaw in the opposing faction’s capital for an achievement? Read our new guide to Cross-Faction Fishing.
Fish Counts
Tigole was kind enough to clarify the fish catch achievement:
“The way this is currently working on the live realms is that it counts as a fish if it falls under the ‘Trade Good’ category with a ‘Meat’ sub-category. Unfortunately, this leaves out a lot of fish. In patch 3.0.3 anything that is caught via the fishing profession will count towards the criteria. In patch 3.1.0 the wording on the achievement gets changed to ‘Fish up 25 items’ rather than ‘Catch 25 fish’.”
Inscription Beta 9095
Major changes:
- Ethereal Ink is trainable at skill 290. Scrolls trained at 290 and 295 use Shimmering Ink. The hardest part of the leveling curve should be fixed. Twice.
- Almost all Northrend-only trained glyphs can no longer be trained… Tentatively: These are now discovered using Northrend Inscription Research.
- Many changes to existing glyphs and new glyphs added in-game.
- Off-hands become Bind on Equip – but still require Inscription skill to use.
To avoid confusion, all “pre-WotLK Inscription” changes are listed here until these changes are patched onto live realms. The rest of El’s Inscription will be updated with WotLK-only changes.
Patch 3.0.2
Expected major fishing changes in the new Patch 3.0.2:
- Many fishing achievements can now be completed.
- Azeroth’s pool names have changed.
Level fishing more than twice as fast– most leveling appears to be unchanged (more detailed confirmation still wanted).
The Fish Finder contains many smaller changes. Please post anything new you find on the forums (or email).
News and Inscription Forums [Update]
Patch 3.0, with Inscription, is live on US realms, and a lot of people are reading El’s guide! Update: The news comments/archive and Inscription forums were taken down yesterday to keep the guides available. New Gnomish technology has now been added, and everything should be up and running smoothly again.
Pigments from Milling
All herbs in the same milling-skill group give similar amounts of pigments. But are all herbs the same? New analysis suggests that higher-level herbs within each skill-group may give more pigments. Particularly secondary pigments. Read more.
Inscription Power-Leveling Guide
The first version of the Inscription leveling guide is now available, for 1 to 350. The guide adjusts for known quirks and bugs in the current beta. It should give an accurate estimate of the herb volumes needed. However, major changes may occur in the next week: Inscription is still not finished! Read the guide.
Inscription Beta 9038
Changes:
- Scrolls now use fewer materials (and make fewer scrolls). Many can now be used to skill-up easily.
- Small changes to skill-ups around skill 300, but with flawed logic (Scroll of Stamina VI and Scroll of Spirit VI are trained below skill 300, but still require 300-skill Ethereal Ink to make). Leveling above skill 350 is still not complete.
- Caution: The skill required to learn recipes varies between different trainers for several scrolls, Mysterious Tarot, and Mystic Tome: A Dalaran skill-up and a pre-WotLK skill-up are currently different.
Inscription Beta 9014
Latest changes:
- Pigments required for most inks have changed.
- Recipes for many Inscriptions (off-hands, tarot) have changed – most require an extra ink. Skilling-up is easier after 200, but leveling is still unfinished.
- Level required to unlock glyph slots has changed (most importantly, the 3rd major glyph slot requires level 80).
- Research no longer has a level requirement.
- Vellum names have changed. The Paladin’s Warhorse glyph has become Wise.
