WotLK: Dalaran Fishing Movie
A video showing fishing in Dalaran has been added. It includes Giant Sewer Rats, strange elixirs, and fountain coins. Watch the film here.
WotLK: Fishing Skill-Up Catches Slashed
The number of catches required to skill-up fishing in Wrath of the Lich King has more than halved: Fishing skill 1 to 375 now needs about 655 catches, compared to 1,700 catches before. 375 to 450 only takes about 315 catches. 1 to 450 in under 5 hours! We assume this change is intended ((it has been in beta for at least a week)). We also assume that 1-375 will become much faster with patch 3.0, which is expected to be released in a few weeks. Leveling fishing should get a lot easier! Browse the new skill-up table.
Inscription Beta 8982
Major changes:
- Milling is trained when Inscription is learnt. Silver Ink has been removed, but Ivory Ink now uses Alabaster Pigment: No raw herbs are used to make inks. Lower-level inks and recipes have been altered slightly.
- Mageroyal now produces Dusky and Verdant Pigments – not Alabaster. It currently still requires skill 1 to mill.
- Minor Inscription Research has been added. It gives a chance of discovering minor glyphs. It is trainable at skill 90, but requires character level 75!
- Update: All discoverable minor glyphs are now listed. There are 6 minor glyphs per class (7 for mages – thanks Harmony), 1 learnt with each research. Research should have a 20 hour cooldown.
- New Death Knight and Paladin major glyphs can now be discovered using Northrend Inscription Research.
New Inscription Research, Scrolls and Glyphs
Beta 8970 adds:
- Northrend Inscription Research, which allows the discovery of (apparently) Inscriber-only glyphs. Read more about research.
- Death Knight and some Warrior major glyphs.
- Many more scrolls can be produced by Inscribers. These require many more materials to make than glyphs.
- Inscriber-only Off Hand items and Masters’ Inscriptions (shoulder “enchants”) are trainable.
- Higher level Tarot Cards (which create “normal” Darkmoon Cards, including level 80 reward Decks) and Vellum (to write down enchants).
- The skill required to train Inscriptions has changed for recipes below skill 400. “Northrend” Inscription is still unfinished.
WotLK: Requires Fishing
The latest Wrath of the Lich King beta adds an epic fishing pole, Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole (+30 skill bonus), which you can buy from the Kalu’ak (Tuskarr) with exalted reputation. It adds new achievements for Dalaran fishing. But one recent addition is almost unseen: If you cast without enough fishing skill for the water, you will see a message such as “Requires Fishing 430″ (where 430 is the skill required to cast). The old “Your skill is not high enough to fish here” message was one of the reasons El started writing this guide: What skill is required is such an obvious question for any new angler! Now fishing finally gains the same feedback as other gathering professions.
Inscription Beta 8962
- Trainable recipes are now using inks and parchment. These may not be the final reagents – the requirements are very basic. Many items are still missing. Milling has not changed.
- New Tarot cards have been added, which give Inscribers blue-quality rewards.
- Strange “Lexicon of Power” can be found floating near Inscription trainers. [Update: You must now be stood near a Lexicon of Power to apply a glyph.]
- Scroll of Recall are now likely to teleport you to the wrong place if used when above level 40.
WotLK: Dalaran Fishing Guide
The new Dalaran Fishing Guide provides detailed information about everything caught in the city, from Magic Eaters and Rusty Prison Keys, to Giant Sewer Rats and Gold Coins. Dalaran’s fishing is very rich and imaginative. I hope Dalaran is an indication of the variety us anglers will eventually see in other Northrend zones. Read more.
WotLK: Giant Sewer Rat
A very rare minipet, the Giant Sewer Rat, can be caught from Dalaran‘s Underbelly (sewers). Read more »
WotLK: Magic Eaters
The waters of Dalaran‘s Underbelly contain a fish called Magic Eater. Eating the Magic Eater gives a random buff: Either “Wild Magic” or “Well Feed”:
- Wild Magic turns you into a basilisk, locust, whelp, or whisp, and prevents you casting or attacking for 1 minute.
- Well Feed gives +30 Stamina for 1 hour, plus randomly one of: +60 Attack Power, +30 Critical Rating, +30 Haste Rating, +12 MP5, or +35 Spell Power.
The positive buffs are not as good as the best cooked fish, but may be useful for anglers who like to idle in Dalaran. Unless they like to dodge: The surface waters of Dalaran contain Slippery Eel, which can be eaten raw for a +30 Dodge Rating.
Inscription Beta 8926
Latest changes:
- The cooldown on glyphs has gone: Apply them as often as you wish.
- Pigments gained from milling have been altered: Bonus items have gone, and the amount of pigments gained has changed. All pigments can now be milled from herbs again. More details.
- Inks use new icons. No new glyphs or items have been found in the game yet (including Death Knight and Warrior glyphs, and the Inscribers’ off-hand items found in the game files).
- Scroll of Recall now only works until level 50.
