Materials 350-450
To reach skill 430, you should mill 360 herbs (72 millings) that produce Azure Pigment/Icy Pigment. Any Northrend herb from: Adder's Tongue, Deadnettle, Fire Leaf, Goldclover, Icethorn, Lichbloom, Talandra's Rose, or Tiger Lily. You should gain at least 188 Azure Pigment and about 28 Icy Pigment (the precise number of Icy Pigment is not important).
Recipes in this skill block use Resilient Parchment. You will need about 150 parchment to reach skill 430.
I do not recommend attempting to power-level straight to 450. Those attempting to level quickly from 430 to 450 will need to use extra materials. Full details are described below.
Leveling 350-430
Leveling starts as normal, by making inks and then producing scrolls with those inks. Only Northrend materials are used here. If Outland herbs are plentiful (or much cheaper than Northrend herbs), make Ethereal Ink and produce glyphs between skill 355 and 360 (see Leveling 290-350).
At skill 385 you will learn Northrend Inscription Research. Like other Research, this has a 20 hour cooldown. You must discover one major glyph at skill 385, which you will then use to level to 400. If you do not make a discovery, you must wait 20 hours and try again: There is no other known way to reach skill 400!
Leveling from skill 400 to 430 simply means making scrolls.
Leveling 430-450
Between skill 430 and 440, there are no good leveling options:
- Scroll of Agility VIII will very rarely give skill-ups until it "goes grey" at 435.
- Northrend Inscription Research goes green at 437 and grey at 450, but can only be used once every 20 hours.
- The 2 off-hands, Faces of Doom and Iron-bound Tome also go green at 437 and grey at 450, so can be used to skill-up.
- Darkmoon Card of the North is the only known recipe that remains yellow until 450, and so gives a reasonable chance of a skill-up. The reagents required are "farmable", but will still require a lot of effort.
- Conduct Book of Glyph Mastery research. Glyphs discovered from Book of Glyph Mastery are yellow at 430, green at 435, and grey at 440. They use relatively small amounts of materials. Unfortunately, Book of Glyph Mastery are rare.
The best strategy is stop power-leveling Inscription at about skill 430, and simply conduct regular Northrend Inscription Research until skill 440. There are over 80 major glyphs to be discovered: It is likely you will be reach at least skill 440 by the time you have discovered them all.
If you are determined to reach 440 as fast as possible:
- From skill 430 to 434 make Scroll of Agility VIII. About 20 will be made, but skill-ups are very unreliable.
- From skill 434 to 440 make Darkmoon Card of the North. About 10 will be made. You might even manage to complete a deck!
An alternative is the production of a glyph discovered from Book of Glyph Mastery research. Materials required vary between glyphs - most do not used Ink of the Sea.
Finally, between skill 440 and 450, make Runescroll of Fortitude. This recipe is trained from Northrend trainers. It is yellow at skill 440, but remains green from 442 to 450. Each set of scrolls only requires 1 Snowfall Ink (and 5 Resilient Parchments).
There is nothing available at Inscription skill 450 (except a Feat of Strength achievement for the first scribe on the realm to reach 450). You should consider carefully whether power-leveling to 450 now is a good use of your time.Trained Inscriptions 350-450
