Higher-Level Darkmoon Decks

Darkmoon Fortune Teller

Higher level card recipes produce Darkmoon Decks. These cards and decks can be used by non-Inscribers. All these decks require 8 cards:

These decks still need to taken to the Darkmoon Faire.

Mysterious Fortune Cards

Mysterious Fortune Card creates a random card, whose vendor value ranges from 10s to 5000g. Probabilities are heavily biased towards 10s, but this might be an interesting way to earn money, if auction house herb prices are low.

Lower-Level Tarot

Inscribers can learn recipes to make Tarot cards. Lower-level recipes (listed in the table below) produces 1 of 3-5 possible cards from different Decks. Any of the cards may be created each time the recipe is used. Once 1 of each of the cards has been gained, they can be combined into a Deck.

Once complete, each Deck can be used to start a quest. Starting the quest places a new deck of cards in your inventory. Use this deck to summon a Darkmoon Fortune Teller, who you talk to to complete the quest. The Darkmoon Fortune Teller can be summoned anywhere, once every 5 minutes. The fortune teller only allows the quest to be completed. Completing each quest gains 25 reputation with Darkmoon Faire. Quests award a very small amount of experience.

Cards, decks and rewards are not bound to the Inscriber, nor do that they require Inscription to use.

Low-level decks, quests, and rewards are shown in the table below:

Tarot Cards

  1. Deathxtreme, October 2008:

    Question about the Tarot Cards:

It's stated that with the inscription profession, you can create any darkmoon card including those cards from Classic WoW, The Burning Crusade & Wrath of the Lichking.

Does this include the ace of the decks? Currently, as I understand it, the Ace of each deck is only dropped from specific monsters (i.e. The Beast drops the Ace of Beasts for the Beasts Deck (a Classic WoW reward)) or from any end boss in any level 70 instance (regular or heroic). If the ace is able to be formed, then that will dramatically change the value of this ability as a money maker since I know that the Ace of Beasts is especially desirable (and rare as UBRS is not soloable).

Also, is there an equal chance among all of the cards being formed? My understanding is that with the classic darkmoon decks, the 2-4 were rare world drops and the 5-8 were found mainly in high level instances. I was wondering what exactly you've seen from your inscription results.

  2. el, October 2008:

It has been reported that ace can be made by Inscribers. I don't think anyone has made enough cards yet to know if each card has an equal chance of being made.

It will be interesting to see how Inscribers react to these. Only some of the Darkmoon decks are still useful, yet the process of making the cards is totally random: You will create a lot of cards that have no value, making the "valuable" cards rather expensive to produce.

  3. ScoobyDew79, October 2008:

I made a couple of the Pre-BC cards on beta. A 4 of Beasts, as well as an Ace of Portals. Portals is probably the only deck from Pre-BC that anyone goes after anymore. As El said, you'll be making a lot of cards that no one will want trying to get Aces, or even 4-8 of Portals. And who knows how the creation rate will work at this point. At best, if you have an equal chance of creating any given card, you're looking at a 1:32 drop rate for an Ace of Portals. That's a lot of mats, though the only other thing Ink of the Sky is currently used for is a couple of offhands (which are BoP, and as well as pre-BC level items).

  1. North, November 2008:

Any data on the probabilities for these individual cards being made?

  2. thunderchild, November 2008:

I'm currently at 439 and I've made both the Ace of Chaos and Ace of Prisms so it's certainly valid for the new level of darkmoon cards.
