[Inscription] Scroll of Recall "lost" locations?

  1. Gummo <Moderator>, 2 years ago:

Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be any source that has a canonical list of where you can randomly teleport if you use a Scroll of Recall that is too low.

Here's about the only list I could find, from wowhead, for horde (numbers are number of occurrences out of 16 tries):

3 - Ground - Undercity - Staircase opposite of BE translocation orb
3 - Ground - Stonard Center of outpost
3 - Ground - Barrens Xroads - South of Tower
    2 - Ground - Tanaris - Inside Gadgetzan Arena
2 - Sky Death /w Safefall - Swamp of Sorrows - Misty Reed Strand right on waterline
    1 - Ground - Stranglethorn Vale - Booty Bay's Cannon Pier
1 - Ground - Thunder Bluff - Northern Part of Central Bluff
1 - Ground - Tarren Mill Orchard Ground

My personal list, without counts, for a level 43 Alliance using the lowest Scroll of Recall:

Stranglethorn Vale - Booty Bay's Cannon Pier (same as horde)
Tanaris - Inside Gadgetzan Arena (same as horde)
Dun Morogh - in one of the buildings at Steelgrill's Depot
    Darkshore, in Auberdine
Elwynn Forest - in basement of Lion's Pride Inn
    Hinterlands - in Aerie Peak
Dustwallow Marsh - Theramore Isle, by the tower

I haven't had a sky death teleport. I also assume the next-higher Scroll of Recall will have more/different locations. Can anyone help add to this list?

One more bit of information -- I don't know if you can teleport to locations you have not yet explored; for the Halloween event, I got all the flight paths with inns around Azeroth.

I'm sure there was a discussion about this during beta testing... but I can't find it. I've also been meaning to test it, but it isn't a terribly easy thing to test, and only 2 or 3 people have ever wanted to know.

The data files contain WorldSafeLocs.dbc, which appears to list every map location that a character can arrive at safely - i.e. without falling or immediately aggroing. My guess is that Scroll of Recall failures are based on a subset of that list. It has almost 700 entries, including development-only gibberish. However, the subset is likely determined server-side - all the client needs to be told is "go to location ID".

I've now used dozens of scrolls, and I've arrived at no new areas. I've also never gotten a 'sky death' teleport, so I think that has been removed, or it only triggers if you're WAY above level 35. I'll assume Alliance and Horde both have 7 possible destinations, so these lists appear complete.

Some of the Horde locations for the level II Lost locations (need to be over level 70 and use a Recall scroll of II) from wowhead:
-High over the lake in Swamp Of Sorrows
-Stuck on a barn roof in Tarren Mill
    -In front of Karazhan
    -In the middle of Feralas

hey, just logged to this site to say that the lost locations that i've met have been as alliance

cottage near kharanos inn at dun morogh
downstairs of goldshire in in elwynn forest
    hill at auberdine in darkshire

and then "neutral" locations that apparently horde toons gets too,

    arena cage at gadzgeztan, tanaris
beach wall at booty bay, stranglethorn vale

and just a word of warning, if you happen to have not so good reputation with goblins as i did (Bloodsail Admiral title) it's bit hard to get out of that cage in tanaris alive, atleast as a clothie.
