[General] Enchanting and Inscription

Hey I've spent a lng while away from WOW, but I'm being tempted back
I wondered about some input on professions a race.
I was thinking about making a mage with Inscription and enchantment, so he can produce great weapons, if it was to be enchatment rather than jewelcrafting I'd play a BE mage - but I'm tempted by the undead - I've done a lot of soloing and don't know quite how may people I'll meet at the early stage because the barren s is vital to my play due to the fishing - I'd hope to raise funds form th eDeviate Fish - it's a good spurce of income.

This is why I've toyed with tAuren Druid beacasu of the 15 Herbalism bonus.

CAn anyone give me some advice? THis cahracter is meant to be fluffy - the student mage being part of the allure.

If you've been away a long time, the biggest difference is that professions are now much more about personal benefits than they used to be. For example, a scribe-only shoulder bonus or enchanter-only ring enchants (generally at skill 400).

If you're looking for no-hassle, fairly good low-level income, gathering professions are still recommended. Most manufacturing professions won't be useful until Northrend, although Inscription can be an exception (some "good" glyphs can be gained at fairly low level).

Inscription is relatively easy to level (for a manufacturing profession), but you'll need to spend a lot of time in the auction house to make money from it (managing the sale of 100+ different types of glyph).

Enchanting and Jewelcrafting require a lot more effort to level (Enchanting isn't so bad if you level it with a character and D/E all your own drops, Jewelcrafting fits well with leveling Mining), but aren't so hard to manage.

Jewelcrafting is particularly recommended for a main character, because many of the recipes are linked to sources like daily quests and PvP - almost everything of value in Jewelcrafting cannot be gained with money or rapid grinding. But Cataclysm will introduce new recipes, so working on WotLK recipes now would probably be a waste of time.

Race bonuses aren't terribly important - they make leveling slightly easier, but there's no long-term benefit.

    • Character: El (EU-Ravenholdt).

.. yet. Blizz have stated they will be changing up the Race Bonus to be like the Goblins boost from Alch and how the Wogen's don't need a knife to skin.

So in a few months the race bonus may be worth something.

To the OP, given how close we are getting to an Expansion, you might want to stick with something fun or easy. As EL said Inscription with Herbalism isn't bad as decent glyphs are there from the low levels. All the crafting profs will be in for an overhaul soon with the stat changes coming means they have to re-do all the craft-able armor/weapon stuff we can make.

I consider Alch to be one of the fastest profs to level, but if you just need money stick with Herb & Mining. Mith, Thorium & Mid to High end Azeorthian herbs (Sungrass etc) occasionally sell for upwards of 50-100g a stack on my server.. :(
