Right now you can only get to 355 on the PTR. I suspect those last 20 pts of Outland stuff will require primals. We'll see. Let's just hope they are orange and not green like every recipe from 305-355.

I'm still not convinced that inscription can be a money maker past the first few weeks. How many "regular" folks will want to re-glyph twice a week? Hard core yes, joe normal, I'm not too sure. Also, we are still not sure if there will be some sort of huge money sink in LK. If some 25K thing comes along that everyone needs/wants, that will cut into inscription.

JC have it nice since everyone gets new gear even once they reach the lvl cap, so you'll need to re-gem. I've never seen Alchemy as a money maker since once you find one in your guild you don't really need to buy anything (except matts).

I really want to see what "special" thing we, as inscribers, get from inscription. A high-end blue item like a neck piece? Trinkets? The off-hand items today do not benefit my spec at all (Feral Druid). What exactly are these inscriber only glyphs? Have they been listed somewhere?

Maybe the LK version of the darkmoon cards will be top sellers? If I can turn out a 100g card with 20minutes of gathering, that wouldn't be too bad.

Yes, I believe Inscription will be the second biggest money earner in the game, it will outstrip Alchemy and Enchanting and I think it has a fair chance to do in Jewelcrafting.

My opinion is based purely on the class I know best and the one I intend to focus on primarily in WotLK; the mage.

First up, I'm not going into arena without the glyphs of Evocation, Icy Veins and Ice Lance. However for PvE, I want the glyphs of Water Elemental, Mana Gem and Mage armour.

Now, I expect a glyph to exceed 10g in mats in the expansion, possibly more. I don't expect the extra profession using herbs will decrease the value of herbs, but rather make the historically more useless herbs more valuable, the economy of WoW has rarely in my experience allowed for a devaluing of an item, for example void crystals and large prismatic shards, LPS' remained fairly static across the two servers I play on, when void shatter became available and the price of void crystals went up, when it could just as easily have been the reverse. Prices always seem to go up for reagents.

Given the general cost per glyph, I fully expect a small percentage of people to re-glyph each weekend before they do arena. And then re-glyph for their 5/10/raid experience.

The key to the profession is to look at the glyphs and define which ones have pvp value and pve value. If a glyph holds equal merit for both, then you can assume that slot contains no value to the profession, it's a once in a respec buy. The glyph of Scorch I believe holds some of that value, same for the glyph of Arcane Missles. For an arc/fire, fire or arc mage, those would be valuable regardless of venue.

What has surprised me thus far with the profession is the lack of "rarity" or "non-inscription based" requirements. Every other profession has at some stage used elements from other professions, or rare items to skill to a certain level. With tailoring it was either enchanting materials or primals. Alchemy's skill progression was a function of rarity/level to an extent. Blacksmithing/engineering/leatherworking and even jewelcrafting had limitations placed on skilling up by either level or material requirements. Jewelcrafting had the added inhibition of it's skill tree being largely drop-based and therefore open to market demands.

Inscription seems to hold none of these natural blocks to easy progression. The creation of blocks within the herb tree seems to obviate the need for levelling at all. I could have remained a level 60 toon on my inscriptor and without assistance from any other source, achieve 375 Inscription with little fear of dying or little expenditure on the AH. This is patently not true of any other profession in my experience.

This may be an intentional aim to keep the cost of the glyphs in line with potions, ie readily available and consumed, but it also exposes in my opinion the market to undue flooding.

Admittedly I believe the scope of Inscription has yet to be unveiled. Decyphering remains an unknown and will remain so I expect till it goes live because I expect -it- to be a source of parchment/vellum from scrolls and tomes etc. My totally unfounded suspicion is that you will be able to return some value from the creation of scrolls (it will not make money, the cost of creation will always outweigh the cost of materials gained).

Just some thoughts,
thunderchild

p.s. absolutely love the fishing/inscription sites El. Kudos.

I'm trying to determine what value inscription offers me.

Money? -- Right now I would think there will be a lot of initial purchases, but what value does inscription provide over the long term? Are the masses going to re-Glyph every day? Not likely.

What do I get as an inscriber? -- A deck of cards? Some weird off-hands if I'm spec'd to use them.

Maybe it is too early to tell with the last question, what little I can see today, it doesn't seem like it would be worth the costs to level (even though I already have the mats). I could just as easily pay another inscriber to make my Glyphs. At least JCs have some long term need as folks replace gear they need to re-gem.

Thoughts? Is inscription going to "worth it"?
