Sorry if this is a very noobish question. I have been on Beta, mostly to "fact find" (i.e. not spoil too much of it for the final version). I have leveled my Lock to 360 in inscriptions, but can't seem to find where I learn the #II and/or #III Scrolls of Recall. Anyone know?

Thanks

More scroll notes from the PTR:

1) A Scroll of Strength V in my pack remained STR V with the new values for that scroll; I'm pretty sure people saving them to make armor will not be able to use them as an ingredient after the patch.

2) You now catch Scrolls of level VI from pools in Zangarmarsh

3) I only caught a few scrollcases; I didn't get any scrolls of protection

4) Scrolls of Protection DO exist in the PTR; Adair Gilroy, a vendor in the library near Stockades, can have a few level I and II in stock. I assume I will be able to catch Protection level VI in Zangarmarsh.

Prices seem to vary a lot by server and date. A few months ago, a Scroll of Agility V went for 9g on my server; I would buy any that were listed for 7g or less. Nowadays with fewer guilds raiding, the average price has dropped to 6-7g. Being able to make 5 scrolls for 10g seems like a real bargain.

I can also find felweed for 50s easily, and sometimes as low as 30s -- and this is after herb prices have risen as a whole in anticipation of the patch.

About buff slots: since most buffs are going to become raid-wide, it greatly increases the chances that there will be a shaman in the raid who can provide Grace of Air or Strength of Earth. (Previously, that shaman would have to be in your party.) If you can expect to get these buffs in 25-mans, then there isn't a great need to limit the number of scroll buff slots. But who knows -- maybe they'll limit them anyway.

Worth adding that scroll recipes for III and above (except Scroll of Recall) now make 5 scrolls. So the cost/resell value balance is closer to realistic, but still on the high side.

Which makes this all the more interesting:

A few of the low-level scrolls have the words, "Only one scroll effect can be active at a time," on their tooltips. That is not found on live scrolls. And it makes me think that we're about to see a dedicated "scroll buff slot", which every hardcore raider/PvPer will want to fill.

However, those words are not found on any of the high-level scrolls - which are the critical ones if scrolls are to become a consumable. And with just weeks to go, it is hard to imagine that Blizzard would be prepared to start re-balancing every endgame activity in the game, by introducing a new buff slot and new consumable.

No protection scrolls in beta either. There are level 70 and 80 scrolls. I hadn't noticed the level change for the lower scrolls, but was somewhat aware the stats had changed.

The improved stats still fail to surpass players' spells, where available. For example, level 70 Fortitude gives a base +79 Stamina, compared to +63 from Scroll of Stamina VII. Perhaps we've being asked to gamble that your 10 man raid might not have a Priest in it?

Regardless, even the somewhat useful scrolls (like agility) require far too many reagents to make them a viable consumable.

For example, assume that the level 70 scrolls were available in-game for current endgame raiding. Most scrolls uses 5 parchment plus 5 ink, where 5 inks are made from 5 common pigments, requiring roughly half a stack of herbs. Level 70 scrolls use 5 Resilient Parchment, costing 2g 50s per scroll. 10 Felweed (generally the cheapest Outland herb) is going to add 5-10g to that: So at a rough estimate, a level 70 scroll would cost about 10g to make at current prices, which is more than players are prepared to pay for the best selling dropped scrolls. So Inscribers will be under-cut by drops, and overall prices will remain too high for less hardcore play-styles.

From a 352 Inscriber on the PTR ("Testchar"), the levels of scrolls has changed:

Old scroll list: I,II,III,IV,V usable by level at 10,25,40,55,60

New scroll list: I,II,III,IV,V and now VI usable by level at 1,15,30,40,50,60, but the values are changed. I assume there will be VII and VIII at 70 and 80. The values also vary; for example, for level VI scrolls, AGI and STR are +20, INT is +24, SPI is +32 and STA is +43. Also the BS recipe now needs scrolls of strength VI because that one type of scroll is classed as a "consumable". I did not see protection scrolls in her list of craftable scrolls.

Spells to create scrolls were added to the data files several months ago, and Inscribers can make low-level scrolls in beta. So it seems likely they will be able to make higher level scrolls too.

The key question is whether these will be throw-away leveling items that hardly anyone will use (like most scrolls at the moment), or whether there will be a change to the mechanics so that scrolls become a mainstream consumable (like potions).

I think that will depend a lot on whether glyphs are effective consumables, which are changed for individual raid encounters or arenas. If everything Inscribers make is fairly basic and easy (in comparison to professions like enchanting or blacksmithing), then they will need some sort of consumable to keep the profession relevant long-term.

As far as I have understanded, yes.. you will be able to make those scrolls aswell the new rank ones in WotLK.
I think the main Idea is for the inscriber to create "buff" witch can be missed in raids sometimes etc like Spirit buff/blessings so you avoid alt loggins etc etc..

The standard types of scrolls in WoW are:
Agility, Intellect, Protection, Spirit, Stamina, Strength
All of the above are I,II,III,IV,V usable by level at 10,25,40,55,60

Does it appear that all standard scrolls will be craftable with inscription?
Are there level VI scrolls usable at level 80? Breaks the pattern of every 15 levels.

From fishing up and selling tons of scrolls, here's what I find sells (all are level V scrolls):
Spirit - Can barely give these away, I sell a stack of 5 for 10-40 silver
Intellect - I was surprised they don't sell much. Stack of 5 for 50-1g50
Stamina - Usually sells 5 for 5g-7g50, but recently I've had to cut prices
Agility - Sells easily 5 for 5g bid/7g50 buyout

Strength - I usually sold these 5 for 5g/7g50, until someone offered me a lot more. Blacksmiths need 2 of them for a good leveling-up recipe "Ragesteel Shoulders", so now I sell them whenever I get them for 2g/3g each.

Protection - I usually sold these 5 for 5g/7g50, but now someone buys all I find for 4g each.

Prices are sure to fluctuate when they are craftable, but this might give you an idea of what to grind out. Scroll of Strength V is currently the only scroll used as a crafting ingredient, which increases demand.

It's an interesting question.

I suspect the role of scrolls will depend on the importance of consumables to the Inscription profession. Many people were expecting glyphs to be like enchants, but they feel more like potions. So Inscription may already have a viable consumable.

However, scrolls could equally become the mainstay of Inscriber's day-to-day activity: If every member of a raid was required to "scroll-up", a lot of scrolls would be needed. But last year's alchemy changes moved away from requiring many different potions, and requiring scrolls would place new stress on the raid community.

What we do not yet know is how glyphs scale over time: How they get better with successive patches. Most of the manufacturing professions gain new, improved recipes over time. But how exactly do you scale a Glyph of Shred? 1.1 additional targets? Tricky.

So perhaps Inscription is not going to evolve at all, just as the gathering professions don't change dramatically? There might just be a few new glyphs to support the new spells in each expansion.

The long-term role of Inscription isn't at all clear yet. I think it may yet surprise us all...

Currently, you can have one scroll of each type active (strength, agility, stamina, intel, etc) at any given time. Some buffs don't stack with scrolls (i.e. fortitude with stamina), but potions do stack. Is there any word as to whether or not this is going to continue after inscription starts flooding the world with them? Just curious...

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but as of the latest beta build, Scrolls of Recall also reset a Shaman's Astral Recall timer. So Shaman Inscriptors won't be able to hearth nine times an hour.

While this isn't a real detriment (five hearths an hour is already pretty crazy, if you ask me) it might bear mention for people considering Inscription as an asset to their class.
