ok, there is a great mod for professions. Advanced Trade Skill Window, avail on curse, can tell you from the pigments -> final product w/o much aggravation. it's only limitation is it will not tell you the herbs needed to make the ink. also a window can be enabled to popup while at the bank to pull your items from the bank so you can make whatever you wanted to make. this mod has the ability to queue multiple items across multiple characters, then makes a list at the AH for easy searching.

and also makes the window wider (similar to some of the quest addons).

I have had a similar experience - the crafting list is huge and the display window is small. I wish there was a streamlined way to move from herbs > pigments > inks > final product.

Right now I either work the entire process in reverse, or simply have all the necessary inks pre-made in the bank (my current solution). Although I also have an alchemist so would prefer to leave my mats as herbs, useful to both professions.

So I took up Inscription on the first day of the 3.0 release and power-leveled to 350 and discovered a minor glyph.
The next day I took an alt to Lvl 75 and discovered a minor glyph.
I've been faithfully discovering minors every day (some overlap but so what). All the glyphs go to the AH and sales have been good. I try to keep 3 of each glyph up for auction at all times.

Needing herbs in vast quantities and having them be cheaper on the Alliance side than Horde, I decided to open another store in Ironforge. I had previously set up toons in IF and Gadgetzan to pass mats to my Horde characters. I then sent 3 of each minor glyph to my Alliance AH toon. Sales on the Alliance AH are even better than the Horde side.

On Wed, 11/12, I took my main to Northrend and power-leveled to 385 for the Northrend Inscription Research and discovered a major glyph. I've been faithfully discovering majors with this toon every day.

So now my problem is time. Every morning I do an inventory check of my Horde and Alliance AH's, decide which glyphs have sold out, have one of my Horde toons make 3x of those glyphs and mail them out or transfer them through Gadgetzan. But now we're talking about 50 different minor glyphs and 5 majors.

I need an addon that will 1) list the glyphs that I have up on the AH (Armory add-on does this very nicely) 2) compares that list to the list of discovered minor and major glyphs that I want to keep up on the AH and 3) generate a list of glyphs to make; # for the IF AH and # for the Org AH. I need to be able to edit the list to be made to eliminate those that are going for under XX gold.

I have no experience writing UI's but it seems like all the information is there, being stored by other addons that I have. I just need to get them to talk to each other and then let me know what they said.

I had this same problem, but I had just wizzed up to the 300's in a mere few hours. I was having the problem with a stack of 15 felweed, which was making it impossible to mill any of the felweed in my bags. Annoyed, I assumed it was the same thing as with JC - after so many stacks of the same thing, you have to wait a certain amount of time to be able to use that particular kind again. So I did the ssame thing I do with JC. I mailed them to an alt, got a different kind of herb from my mailbox, and went through about a dozen or more stacks of something else before I tried the felweed again. first time it didn't work, so I did some more stacks, and after a while the felweed went through. I'm wondering if it's a certain amount of time you have to wait, or a certain number of other milling/crafting you have to do, though of course it's possible that it is, like you say, a bug waiting to be fixed.

I am having the same problem too. I am going to post this on the Blizzard forums. Maybe if enough of us do this, Blizzard may think about adding a drop down in the Inscription trade skill window that only shows <Class> in in tab and <Major/Minor/Created> in the other. That would help quite a lot for me.

Good suggestion indeed. Figuring out a full list of which minors I have discovered, or to answer questions like "what minor shaman glyphs can you make?" is quite time consuming right now. And making that second dropdown in the interface actually useful would be welcome.

The inscription bubble lasted longer than expected, though prices have dropped considerably given that hundreds of players/server are leveling inscription. I stockpiled herbs for the last month or two and have made just over 20k gold selling both glyphs and herbs on Kel'Thuzad since the patch. For about a day I was routinely selling stacks of Goldthorn and Khadgar's for upwards of 69 g -- which is ridiculous.

The majority of glyphs sell now for 1-10g, with a few notable exceptions like Glyph of Crusader's Strike and Glyph of Water Mastery which still fetch 30-50 g. Useful minor glyphs sell for the same if not more, but each day means more and more people discover them and undercut war the prices to nominal levels.

Like others have mentioned, leveling multiple alt's inscription is a great way to build your minor glyph resume; although you run the risk of getting repeats (I have three toons with Glyph of Revive Pet -- ownt).

I anticipate the demand to drop considerably proportionate to supply over the next few days to the point that slim profits will be made transforming herbs into glyphs. When Northrend Inscription Research becomes available there will be spike in new glyph prices but as a whole I think it will be difficult for inscription to keep parity with alchemy in terms of profitability due to a lack of universally used consumables.

Hello.

Thanks El for the guide! I skilled Inscription to 350 on patch release day (couldn't get on until 8pm and was 350 by 2am). I only cut it close one place - my very last ink dinged 300 skill, then it was gravy.

My issue:

I have now discovered four Minor Glyphs. My problem is that they are just thrown in with the Major Glyphs and I have to manually track them.

Any suggestions on how to separate or identify or distinguish the Minor Glyphs from the Major in the UI?

In the first 36 hours of patch release I have made 4500g. The bubble is now burst unless you learn a minor that is hot! I am a little furious over the people posting glyphs up there in AH for 1s. Very annoying. Also a tip. One of my alts did not have a second profession so I used a few stacks of Silverleaf to get to Inscription level 75 so that she can learn Minor Glyphs as well. This way I am learning 2 every 20 hours. I will keep doing this until my main knows all the minors.

Also on the second day I didn't learn a glyph. It gave me 2 Scrolls of Recall ;(

As always, I'm typing this up from work, so I don't have any means to testfire and troubleshoot till I get home.

Last night and his morning I was able to trick mill through my herbs. It always seems to be the same stack in my bags... so I just made little stacks, and combined them into 5's untill I could wead-out the bugged herb I must have gathered.... See I was thinking maybe, it might just be one in the stack that is makeing the whole stack un-useable or a few in the stack. So I went through them and when I got down to one, I tossed it, and herbed again.

Even if that works for all, it still seems like a retarded solution, that only the BIG purple crayon people would think up. No offence to the purple crayon people.

Looks like doing the log thing might work, but I logged off over night and still had the same issue with the same stack.

The process I listed above worked (for a desperate man), and I just left the stack there and kept working... I'm past that level herbs, but I was reluctant to even put it on the AH incase someone else ended up having the same issue with that stack...

You are not alone.

I've still not been able to work precisely what triggers the problem. For example, I milled the first 5 of a stack of 20 Mana Thistle fine, but the remainder of the stack then behaved as you describe. I could start milling Felweed, and it would mill fine. But when I returned to the Mana Thistle, nothing would happen.

I understand this is about Milling data, but this is related to milling and doesn't seem to be covered anywhere else.

When I go to cast "mill herbs" on whats in my bags, it will cast, and I will get nothing. No pigment, or anything. I won't lose my herbs either, it's like the cast did nothing.

I just wanted to know if this is a common issue with the patch or should I be concerned?

Sometimes, if I move my herbs to a different bag or seperate them into stacks of 5 it will work, but in most cases it won't change the outcome.

As you all know it can be frustrating after spending 3 hours farming herbs, to find you can't mill a damn thing no mater what you do, then end up with a bag or two full of herbs you can't do anythign with untill they fix the bug. I would go ahead and farm more herbs for the next set of herbs, but I'm quickly runing out of bag, bank, and guild bank space. I'm honestly about to make a guild on a different charater and use the guild bank to store my stuff at this point.

After having played a bit with Inscription on the PTR, I'm somewhat puzzled about what Blizzard has intended for the pricing of glyphs.

There are glyphs that will be popular, and glyphs that noone will use. There will be glyphs that are cheap to make, and glyphs that are more expensive to make. But those two things seem to be totally unrelated - there are plenty of very popular glyphs that can be made soon after picking up inscription, at a low cost, and there are also quite some expensive glyphs for which I suspect the market is small. Inscription is the first tradeskill where cost of crafting any main product (that is: glyphs) seems to be more or less decoupled from the 'value' of that item. Though Inscribers will learn to note the difference soon enough, I can imagine that non-inscribers buying glyphs will be pretty confused about glyph pricing.

The only thing I can predict now is that minor glyphs will (initially) sell for more than major glyphs - not because of their functionality, but because of their rarity (blizzard fixed the discovery cooldown in the latest patch). And this will probably also come as a surprise to non-inscribers - "hey, this is a 'minor' glyph, doesn't that mean it should be cheaper?".

Anyone having more thoughts about what will happen when inscription finally launches? (Which is not unlikely to be next week's maintenance day)

Yes, scrolls are the obvious consumable, but they don't seem to be cost-effective with materials; glyphs could be consumable, but adding the lexicons of power prevent people from changing glyphs in instances, which knocks out another potential market (especially with only 2 major glyph slots before level 80). I think reducing scroll materials a bit more, and removing the lexicon requirement would help. Another would be adding scrolls that work like some potions that persist through death.
